George A. Custer Room
George A. Custer
The George A. Custer Room commemorates the career of Lt. Colonel Custer, most notably his time in Eastern Montana. Custer and the 7th Cavalry came through the Miles City area twice: in 1873 and in 1876. Companies of the 7th under Custer's command fought Sioux and Cheyenne warriors in August of '73 on the north side of the Yellowstone River just west of modern Miles City. In 1876, Custer made his fateful march to the Little Bighorn and along the way, camped within what is now the city limits of Miles City, on the south bank of the Yellowstone.
